Driver CPC
What is Driver CPC and who needs it?
Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) is a legal requirement for most professional HGV (over 3.5 t) and PCV (9+ seats) driving. If you drive for work, you’ll usually need valid Driver CPC in addition to your licence.
Initial vs Periodic CPC — what’s the difference?
- Initial CPC: for new drivers. On passing the tests, you receive a DQC (Driver Qualification Card) valid for 5 years.
- Periodic CPC: every 5 years, complete 35 hours of approved training to keep driving professionally.
National vs International Driver CPC
International CPC requires all periodic hours to be in full 7-hour modules. If you include any 3.5-hour modules, your status becomes National (UK-only).
What modules do you offer and how long are they?
- 7-hour modules (International-compliant): drivers’ hours & tachographs, safe loading, vehicle safety, road risk, fuel-efficient driving, etc.
- 3.5-hour modules (National): flexible short sessions that count toward National CPC only.
When are courses run and how much do they cost?
How do I check my CPC hours or DQC status?
Use the official government service with your driving licence details to view completed periodic hours and your card status. Keep your DQC with you when driving professionally.
What if I drive professionally without valid Driver CPC?
It’s an offence. Expect enforcement action and possible fines; operators may face Traffic Commissioner scrutiny.
