What does the CPC syllabus and exam look like?
Syllabus: civil/commercial/social law; financial management; operator licensing & undertakings; drivers’ hours, tachographs & working time; maintenance & safety; environmental standards.
Exams: Multiple-choice (60 Q / 2h) and Case Study (8 written Q / 2h15). Both must be passed.
Can I work as an external Transport Manager?
Yes, subject to approval. Limits apply: up to four operators and 50 vehicles total, with demonstrable continuous and effective control.
Does the qualification expire? What CPD is expected?
The CPC does not expire. Traffic Commissioners expect refresher training at least every five years.

Why is the Refresher recommended?
Traffic Commissioners expect refresher training at least every five years. Certificates are accepted as CPD evidence and are useful at Public Inquiry or audit.

What is Driver CPC and who needs it?
A legal qualification for professional lorry, bus and coach drivers. Anyone driving commercially in scope (LGV/HGV >3.5t or PCV ≥9 seats) must hold a valid Driver Qualification Card (DQC).

How do the 35 hours work?
Complete 35 hours of approved periodic training every five years. You may do a 5-day block or spread courses over the cycle.
Can I take Driver CPC online?
Yes. Transcom delivers live tutor-led Zoom courses with same-day DVSA uploads. Pre-recorded/self-paced e-learning does not count.
What are the penalties for non-compliance?
Driving professionally without a valid DQC can attract fines up to £1,000 for both driver and operator.

Operator Licence Awareness Training (OLAT)
What is OLAT and who should attend?
A one-day awareness course for transport managers, directors, restricted licence holders and compliance staff. Strongly recommended by Traffic Commissioners; often requested as remedial training.

What ID do I need?
Bring a valid photocard driving licence or passport. For Driver CPC uploads, DVSA requires exact identity details; for TM exams, ID is mandatory to sit the papers.

When will I get results and certificates?
- Driver CPC: hours uploaded the same day (Transcom) to DVSA; certificates of attendance issued by us.
- TM CPC: results timelines are set by the awarding body; certificates issued upon passing both papers.
- Refresher/OLAT: Certificate of Attendance provided by Transcom on completion.
If I fail a TM exam, can I resit?
Yes. You can resit either paper you did not pass. We can advise on targeted prep and schedule the next available exam sitting.
