The Story Behind Transcom National Training
I’m Gareth Wildman, founder of Transcom National Training. My background is not just classroom-based. It started in the cab, working as a professional LGV driver and operating in the real transport environment where time pressure, vehicle safety, tachograph rules, drivers’ hours and operator licence compliance all matter.
I later moved into training and became a senior lead instructor for major national providers. That experience showed me what good training can do, but it also showed me where the industry often falls short. Too much transport training had become generic, dated and disconnected from the real compliance risks operators face.
Transcom National Training was created to do things differently: focused, current and practical commercial transport compliance training, delivered by people who understand the pressure placed on drivers, transport managers, company directors and operator licence holders.
Gareth has also sat and passed the International Transport Manager CPC exam, giving him qualified, first-hand insight into the standard candidates are expected to reach — not just the standard he teaches to.
“Trans” means Transport. “Com” means Compliance.
Transcom exists for one reason: to support safer, more compliant commercial transport operations. We are not a general training company trying to cover every industry. Meet Richard Charles — Online CPC Trainer
Transport has been part of Richard's life for as long as he can remember. His father spent his career in road haulage with companies like Archbolds, so Richard grew up surrounded by trucks, transport operations and the people who keep the industry moving. That early exposure gave him a genuine appreciation for the profession, and for what it actually takes to run a safe, compliant and efficient transport business.
Richard has spent over 26 years in the road transport industry himself — 26 years driving HGVs on a Category C (Class 2) licence, and the last 7 on a Category C+E (Class 1). That hands-on experience means he teaches from real practical knowledge, not just the legislation behind the Transport Manager CPC qualification. He has also managed hospitality businesses overseas with teams of up to 90 staff, sharpening the same skills that matter in transport management — strong systems, accountability and clear communication.
Richard also qualified as a PADI Staff Instructor 23 years ago, and has spent that time developing divers of all abilities, teaching hundreds of students and logging thousands of dives. The coaching, communication and mentoring skills built over two decades of diving instruction are exactly what he brings into the classroom.
Like Gareth, Richard previously trained with another national provider before joining forces to build something focused, current and practical — which is exactly what Transcom National Training was created to be.
Richard has also sat and passed the International Transport Manager CPC exam himself, so he trains candidates to the exact standard he was tested against.
