Transport Manager CPC Exams Online: A Complete Candidate Guide
If you are preparing to sit the Skills and Education Group Awards Transport Manager CPC examinations, you need to understand more than the syllabus. This guide states how both assessments work, exactly what you can and cannot use, how Integrity Advocate remote proctoring operates and what happens after you submit your answers.
Candidates booking through Transcom National Training can sit the official Transport Manager CPC assessments online from a suitable private location in the UK. Skills and Education Group Awards uses Integrity Advocate to verify identity and remotely proctor the examination, while the assessment is completed through its browser-based online assessment system. This removes the need to travel to a physical examination centre while maintaining formal examination conditions.
At a glance: the qualification contains a multiple-choice assessment and a case-study assessment. You must pass both. The multiple-choice assessment is closed book, while the case study allows printed study notes and books. Both can be completed online on scheduled examination dates using Integrity Advocate remote proctoring.
How to read this guide: statements using must, cannot and permitted are examination rules. References to Tuesday email delivery and the 10:00/13:00 timetable describe Transcom National Training’s standard arrangements; the date and time in your personal examination email are binding.
The rules in this guide reflect the current published examination requirements. Your individual examination email is the final authority for your examination date, start time and any approved reasonable adjustment.
Can You Sit the Transport Manager CPC Exams Online?
Yes. Candidates booking through Transcom National Training can sit the Skills and Education Group Awards Transport Manager CPC examinations online. Skills and Education Group Awards currently uses Integrity Advocate to provide the remote-proctoring and identity-verification process.
You can sit the examination from home, an office or another private room in the UK that meets the examination requirements. You do not need to travel to a physical examination centre. This removes travel and accommodation costs and makes the assessment easier to fit around work and family commitments.
The convenience does not reduce the formality of the assessment. Integrity Advocate guides you through identity verification, the room and workspace scan, camera and microphone checks, and screen sharing. It then monitors the proctored session for compliance with the examination rules. You must remain visible, work alone and keep the assessment in full-screen mode until you have finished.
Online does not mean on demand. The assessments take place on scheduled dates and must be booked before the relevant registration deadline.
Before choosing a sitting, check the latest Transport Manager CPC examination dates and registration windows. Candidates who have already completed their studies can also view the online Transport Manager CPC exam booking options.
What Happens Before the Online Examination?
Skills and Education Group Awards sends candidates an email requiring completion of the mandatory Integrity Advocate system check. For Transcom candidates sitting on a Friday, the standard delivery point is by Tuesday of the same week. If you have not received it by Tuesday, check your junk folder and contact Transcom National Training.
The system check is an important part of the online examination process. Integrity Advocate checks the proposed equipment and internet connection, verifies the candidate’s photographic identification, guides the candidate through a room scan and provides access to a mock-test environment. The check can be repeated if a problem needs to be corrected.
What do you need for the system check?
- A suitable computer or laptop with a working camera and microphone
- A reliable internet connection
- Only one connected display or screen
- Official government-issued photographic identification showing your full name and a clear photograph
Your identification must be official government-issued photo ID. It must show your full name and a clear photograph, and the name must match your examination registration. A valid passport or photocard driving licence meets this requirement.
Complete the system check as soon as the email arrives. Skills and Education Group Awards requires the check to be completed before the exam link is issued. Its learner guide says it must be completed at least one hour before the examination and recommends completing it the day before so there is time to resolve any equipment, identification or room-scan problem.
Do you need to download examination software?
You do not need to download a separate examination application. Integrity Advocate and the online assessment run through a supported web browser. You must allow the browser to use the camera, microphone, screen sharing and any required system audio.
The device must have a working camera and microphone. You cannot use a multi-screen display. Disconnect every additional monitor before completing the Integrity Advocate system check and before starting the examination. Use the browser and technical settings stated in your Skills and Education Group Awards email.
What time do the examinations start?
Transcom National Training’s standard Friday timetable is 10:00 for the multiple-choice examination and 13:00 for the case-study examination.
The same standard times apply whether you book one assessment or both. The date and start time in your individual examination email are binding. You must be ready to start at that time. Late entry is not guaranteed and can result in you missing the examination.
The pre-exam countdown does not update automatically. If you open the examination link before the scheduled start time, refresh the waiting page or press F5 to display the current time remaining. Do not refresh the active examination unless the system instructs you to do so.
Additional time is built into the process for identity verification, the room scan and other pre-exam checks, so completing those checks does not reduce the permitted examination time.
Check your inbox and junk folder. Skills and Education Group Awards sends the mandatory system-check and examination-link emails. The sender or subject line can refer to Integrity Advocate or the online assessment platform rather than Transcom National Training.
Which Transport Manager CPC Assessments Must You Pass?
The qualification contains two externally set and externally marked assessments:
- The multiple-choice assessment
- The case-study assessment
You must pass both assessments with the same awarding organisation to receive the full qualification. Road Haulage and Passenger Transport are separate qualification routes, so make sure you book the route that matches the type of operation you intend to manage.
| Assessment | Time allowed | Marks | Pass mark | Open or closed book? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Multiple choice | 2 hours | 60 questions, 60 marks | 42 out of 60 | Closed book |
| Case study | 2 hours 15 minutes | 60 marks | Notional pass mark of 30 | Open book |
The format is demanding but achievable with the right preparation. For a separate discussion of the standard, revision commitment and common reasons candidates struggle, read How Hard Is the Transport Manager CPC Exam?
Can You See the Online Exam Format Before Exam Day?
Yes. The XAMS demonstrations below show how the multiple-choice and case-study assessments are displayed online. Use them to become familiar with the screen layout, question presentation and navigation controls before examination day.
Multiple-Choice Format Demonstration
This demonstration shows how multiple-choice questions appear, how answers are selected and how candidates move between questions.
Case-Study Format Demonstration
This demonstration shows how the case-study scenario, questions, answer fields and supporting information are presented within XAMS.
These are format demonstrations, not marked mock examinations. They do not produce a result, predict your examination performance or contain the live Transport Manager CPC assessment.
The demonstrations do not replace the mandatory Integrity Advocate system check. You must still complete the system check issued for your own examination before Skills and Education Group Awards sends your live examination link.
How Does the Multiple-Choice Examination Work?
The multiple-choice assessment contains 60 questions and lasts two hours. Each question is worth one mark, and you need 42 marks to pass.
It is a closed-book assessment. You cannot use printed study notes, handwritten revision notes, textbooks, websites or other reference materials. The assessment therefore tests whether you have retained and understood the required knowledge across the syllabus.
The questions cover the qualification syllabus, including operator licensing, commercial and employment law, drivers’ hours, tachographs, working time, vehicle maintenance, business finance, costing, international operations, vehicle weights, safe loading and road safety.
Useful multiple-choice technique
- Read the entire question before considering the answers.
- Look carefully for words such as must, may, maximum, minimum and not.
- Check whether the question requires one answer or more than one answer.
- Do not use too much time on one difficult question.
- Return to uncertain questions after completing the rest of the paper.
- Use any remaining time to check for unanswered or misread questions.
How Does the Case-Study Examination Work?
The case-study assessment lasts two hours and 15 minutes and carries 60 marks. It presents a transport-related scenario and requires you to apply your knowledge to the facts provided.
The case study requires candidates to identify compliance problems, recommend actions, explain procedures, complete calculations, produce instructions and analyse the financial and operational position of an undertaking, according to the questions set.
The case study is open book, but that does not make it easy. It tests application rather than simple recall. You must recognise what the question is asking, find the relevant information and use it correctly within the scenario.
Answer for the marks available. A six-mark question requires several separate, relevant points. One long paragraph or a general description of the topic will not secure all the available marks.
Show your workings
Where a question involves a calculation, show every stage used to reach your answer. Marks can be awarded for a correct method even when the final figure is incorrect.
What Can You Take Into the Transport Manager CPC Exams?
The permitted materials are different for each assessment. Prepare your desk according to the exam you are sitting and show all permitted items during the required workspace scan.
Multiple-Choice Exam
Permitted:
- A dictionary
- The on-screen calculator, where required
Not permitted:
- Printed or handwritten study notes
- Textbooks or course manuals
- Websites or online searches
- Mobile phones, smartwatches or tablets
- A second computer or display
Case-Study Exam
Permitted:
- Printed study notes
- Your own written notes
- Relevant books and reference material
- A dictionary
- Blank paper and a pen
- A suitable calculator
All materials must be physical rather than accessed on another internet-enabled device.
Do not use a mobile phone as a calculator. Phones, smartwatches, tablets and other communication or internet-enabled devices are not permitted during the assessment.
How Should You Organise Your Case-Study Notes?
A large pile of material is not automatically useful. Under time pressure, poorly organised notes can waste more time than they save.
The best approach is to use the same printed study notes throughout your preparation and practise finding information quickly. Organise them around the syllabus rather than trying to guess the exact subject of the case study.
- Use clearly labelled subject dividers.
- Create a detailed contents page or index.
- Keep important formulas and calculation methods together.
- Highlight individual limits, tables and procedures rather than whole pages.
- Use quick-reference pages for drivers’ hours, maintenance, finance, operator licensing, weights and international documentation.
- Remove duplicated or outdated information because it creates confusion under examination pressure.
- Complete timed practice using the same notes you intend to take into the exam.
Study notes should support your knowledge, not replace it. You still need to understand the question before you can locate and apply the correct information.
What Equipment and Room Setup Do You Need?
Candidates are responsible for providing a compliant room, suitable equipment and a reliable internet connection. Integrity Advocate and the assessment run through a supported web browser. No separate examination application is required.
Computer and internet
- A suitable computer or laptop
- A working webcam and microphone
- A stable internet connection
- A supported and up-to-date web browser
- Only one connected display or screen
Disconnect every additional monitor before completing the Integrity Advocate system check or starting the examination. Close programs and browser windows that are not needed for the assessment. Integrity Advocate will ask you to share the entire active screen, so unrelated applications, screen-sharing tools and communication software should not be running.
Screen size and display resolution
Use a laptop or desktop with a minimum screen resolution of 1366 × 768. A resolution of 1920 × 1024 or higher provides the best layout. For an assessment that displays resource documents in a side panel, use a screen at least 1500 pixels wide so the documents and examination tools display correctly.
Internet connection and workplace networks
Use a wired Ethernet connection when one is available. If you use Wi-Fi, sit close to the router. Other people on the same connection must not stream video, download large files or run bandwidth-heavy applications during the examination.
Company and education networks are a known cause of blocked examination domains, camera permissions and screen-sharing functions. If you use workplace equipment, complete the system check early and ask your IT department to remove any restriction. Arrange access to a backup laptop or desktop before examination day.
Browser permissions
Allow the browser to use the camera, microphone, pop-ups, redirects and screen sharing. Close Zoom, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime and every other application using the camera or microphone. On a Mac, enable screen and system-audio recording for the browser and restart the browser before repeating the check.
Photographic identification
You will need valid government-issued photographic identification showing your full name and a clear photograph. Integrity Advocate will require you to present the identification to the camera, and the name must match the details used when you were registered for the assessment.
The examination room
- Use a quiet, private and adequately lit room.
- Make sure no other person is in the room or enters during the assessment.
- Turn off television, music and other background sound.
- Remove unauthorised information from the desk and surrounding walls.
- Be prepared to complete the Integrity Advocate 360-degree scan of the room and workspace.
- Show all permitted notes, books, paper and equipment during the scan.
- Remain focused on the screen and respond to any warning shown by the proctoring system.
Final practical rules
- Wear appropriate clothing throughout the examination.
- Do not wear headphones or earbuds.
- Smoking and vaping are not permitted.
- Where drinks are allowed, use a clear bottle without a label and show it during the workspace scan.
- Keep your mobile phone switched off and out of reach.
Under Transcom National Training’s current online exam arrangements, candidates must be physically located within the United Kingdom. A VPN must not be used. Check the current online exam booking page before booking if you are unsure whether you meet the location or equipment requirements.
Online Exam Setup Checklist
Use this checklist while preparing your room and equipment before examination day:
What Happens on Examination Day?
- Complete the mandatory Integrity Advocate system check as soon as the Skills and Education Group Awards email is received.
- Check that the separate examination-link email has arrived and confirm the exact start time.
- Prepare the room and remove unauthorised materials.
- Check your webcam, microphone, internet connection, browser permissions and single-screen setup.
- Have your government-issued photographic identification ready.
- Open the examination link with enough time to complete the pre-exam steps.
- Follow Integrity Advocate to take the required photographs, read the rules, complete the 360-degree room scan and share the entire screen.
- Remain in full-screen mode, visible to the camera and focused on the assessment.
- Respond appropriately if Integrity Advocate displays a warning about noise, background voices or unusual activity.
- Review your answers and submit the assessment.
- Only close the browser after the system confirms that the assessment is complete.
Do not get up or leave the room once the online examination has started. You must remain in the scanned room and visible until you have completed and submitted the assessment, unless a break has been specifically approved.
Use the toilet before starting and tell everyone at the property or workplace not to enter. Leaving camera view or allowing another person into the room breaches the examination conditions and can result in the recording being reviewed and the assessment being voided.
What If Something Goes Wrong During the Online Exam?
A temporary technical problem does not automatically mean that your examination has been failed or voided. The correct response depends on whether Integrity Advocate and the assessment reconnect and whether you can continue under secure examination conditions.
Do not panic, leave the room or immediately close the browser. Remain seated, follow any message or technical-assistance option displayed on screen and allow the system an opportunity to recover.
What if the internet connection drops briefly?
Stay in the scanned examination room and remain in front of the computer. If the connection restores and the system allows you to continue, resume the assessment and complete it. Do not use another device, ask another person to enter the room or search online for a solution while the examination session is active.
If the connection does not recover, the assessment closes unexpectedly or you lose a significant amount of examination time, record the approximate time and what appeared on screen as soon as it is safe to do so, then contact Transcom National Training immediately.
What if the webcam or microphone fails?
During the advance Integrity Advocate system check, follow the on-screen instructions and correct the browser permissions. You can repeat the system check. If the original device cannot pass, use another compliant desktop or laptop before the examination.
If the camera fails during the identity check or room scan, do not try to bypass the check or start the assessment without completing it. If the equipment cannot be restored, contact Transcom National Training promptly.
What if the browser or examination page freezes?
Wait briefly and follow any recovery or technical-assistance instruction shown by Integrity Advocate or the assessment platform. Do not repeatedly refresh the active examination, exit full-screen mode or close the browser unless the system specifically instructs you to do so.
If the assessment cannot continue, contact Transcom National Training as soon as possible and provide a clear account of what happened. Transcom is the recognised centre that registered the candidate and can report the incident to Skills and Education Group Awards for review.
Who should you contact?
Use any on-screen technical-assistance route provided during the active session. Where the problem prevents the assessment from continuing, or where you believe time or answers may have been lost, contact Transcom National Training immediately. Do not rely on contacting Skills and Education Group Awards directly instead of informing the centre.
Who deals with which type of problem?
| Problem | First action |
|---|---|
| Camera, microphone, screen-sharing or live proctoring prompt | Use the Integrity Advocate on-screen technical-assistance option and follow the displayed instructions. |
| Incorrect registered name, missing examination link or booking problem | Contact Transcom National Training. |
| The examination freezes or cannot be completed | Use on-screen assistance, remain in the room and then notify Transcom National Training immediately. |
| Result, certificate, resit or formal incident review | Contact Transcom National Training. |
Do not assume the timer has paused. If an interruption occurs, make a note of the approximate time and duration once it is safe to do so, and tell Transcom National Training whether examination time or answers appeared to be lost.
What information should you provide?
- Your full name and the assessment you were sitting
- The scheduled date and start time
- The approximate time the problem occurred
- What happened and any message displayed on screen
- Whether the session reconnected and whether you were able to submit
- Whether any examination time or answers appeared to be lost
Do not photograph or copy examination questions. Any evidence or explanation provided after an incident must not reproduce secure assessment content.
Can You Request Reasonable Adjustments?
Reasonable adjustments are available for eligible candidates whose disability, learning difficulty or documented condition affects access to the assessment. This includes eligible candidates with dyslexia, ADHD and other relevant conditions.
Every reasonable adjustment must be requested through the recognised centre and approved before the assessment. An unapproved adjustment cannot be added on examination day.
Contact Transcom National Training before the registration deadline if you require extra time, specialist support or permission to take a break. You must provide any supporting evidence requested for the application.
When Are Results Released?
Results are released according to the published timetable for the individual examination sitting. Transcom National Training contacts its candidates as soon as the confirmed results are received from Skills and Education Group Awards.
Standalone multiple-choice sittings can use a shorter results timetable than combined or case-study sittings. The published result date for your own assessment is the date that applies.
Any result or score shown immediately after submission is provisional. It does not become the confirmed result until the proctored recording has been reviewed and Skills and Education Group Awards has released the outcome to Transcom National Training.
Because exact dates vary from sitting to sitting, always check the current examination dates guide or the information supplied with your booking.
What happens if you pass only one assessment?
You do not repeat an assessment you have already passed. You book only the outstanding component, provided both components are completed with the same awarding organisation.
- Book the Road Haulage multiple-choice assessment
- Book the Road Haulage case-study assessment
- Book both Road Haulage assessments
Before rebooking, review why marks were lost. Repeating the same preparation method without correcting the weakness is unlikely to produce a different result.
Which Preparation Route Is Right for You?
Not every candidate needs the same level of support. Some need a full qualification course, while others have already studied and only need revision or an exam booking.
| Your situation | Suitable route |
|---|---|
| You want structured, tutor-led teaching | Five-day live online Road Haulage Transport Manager CPC course |
| You need flexible independent study | Transport Manager CPC home-study options |
| You have studied and need final exam technique | Transport Manager CPC Exam Preparation Day |
| You need help with one topic, calculation or case-study method | One-hour Transport Manager CPC study session |
| You are ready to sit without further training | Online exam-only booking |
Candidates starting from the beginning can compare all available routes on the Transport Manager CPC courses page.
What Happens After You Pass?
Passing the qualification proves that you have reached the required examination standard. It does not automatically mean you are ready to manage every aspect of a live transport operation without further development.
A nominated Transport Manager must exercise continuous and effective management. That includes oversight of maintenance, drivers’ hours, defect reporting, licence undertakings, records, disciplinary systems and corrective action.
