For Newly Qualified Transport Managers Practical training for after you've passed the CPC — not a refresher, not exam prep.
You've got the qualification — the exam tested whether you know the legislation. It didn't test whether you can handle a driver refusing a tachograph download, a defect found minutes before dispatch, or a director asking you to sign off something you're not sure about. This course is the practical training that comes next: two days built specifically for your first months carrying real operator licence responsibility, not for topping up years of experience.
Just passed your CPC and wondering what's next? Read: the real responsibility begins now .

Is This the Right Course?
Two seconds, to save you booking the wrong one.
- You've just passed your Transport Manager CPC, or are about to sit it
- You're newly named — or about to be named — on an operator's licence
- You hold or run a restricted licence and carry compliance responsibility without a qualified TM
- You know the legislation but have never actually run the day-to-day systems
Already an experienced, practising Transport Manager who just needs to keep your knowledge current — OCRS, current DVSA expectations, CPD evidence? That's exactly what our 2-Day Refresher Course (£160) is built for. This isn't that course.
Haven't got the qualification yet? Start with our Transport Manager CPC course options and come back once you've passed.

You Know the Law. You Don't Yet Know the Job.
The CPC exam tests legislation. It does not prepare you for a driver refusing a tachograph download, a known defect minutes before dispatch, or commercial pressure to "just get it done". Most transport managers only get the rules properly contextualised years later — usually at a refresher course — after they've already been carrying legal responsibility without it for some time.
This course closes that gap early, deliberately, before you're tested by it. Two days of live, scenario-led training built around one question: "I have the qualification — how do I actually run a compliant operation?" You leave with the judgement to make defensible decisions under pressure, and the documentation to evidence continuous and effective management from your first day named on an operator licence.
If you're reading this because you don't feel ready — that's not a sign you're behind. Nobody comes out of the CPC exam room ready to run an operation. The qualification was never designed to teach that part. This course is.
2026 Course Dates — Live Online Cohorts
Runs Monday–Tuesday in the last week of each month, live on Zoom, 09:00–16:30. Places are limited per cohort to keep the training interactive.

Price: £325 Including VAT — Everything Included
Comparable practical transport manager courses cost £420+ and still send you home to write your own policies. Ours is £325 all-in, with a complete policy pack included — because if this is your first time actually running the job, you don't have that paperwork yet. Refreshing existing knowledge is one thing; building a compliance file from nothing is another, and it's typically less than the cost of a single prohibition, vehicle detention or compliance-related lost day.
Prefer to spread the cost? Klarna payment options are available at checkout.

Who This Course Is Built For
🎓 Newly qualified Transport Managers
Just passed your TM CPC and about to be named on an operator's licence? Learn exactly how to apply the systems and procedures the exam only described — before enforcement scrutiny tests them for you, not after.
🚛 Restricted licence holders, new to compliance
Running vehicles on a restricted licence without a qualified TM? You carry the same compliance obligations as a named Transport Manager, often with less support around you. Learn the systems the Traffic Commissioner expects, and leave with the policies to prove it.
Already an experienced, practising Transport Manager and just need a knowledge update? This course isn't built for that — our 2-Day Refresher Course (£160) is. Still studying for the qualification itself? Start with our Transport Manager CPC course options and come back when you've passed.
Included: The Complete Policy & Procedure Template Pack
If this is your first time actually running Transport Manager compliance, the hardest part usually isn't knowing the rules — it's having the paperwork that proves you're applying them, because you haven't built any yet. So we give it to you. Every delegate receives a full template pack of the policies and procedures a compliant operation needs, worked through live on the course so you understand how to adapt each one to your fleet.
📁 What's in the pack
Supplied as editable digital documents. Adapt them on day two with guidance from your trainer, and leave with DVSA-ready documentation — not a to-do list.

Your Trainer
Gareth Wildman — Transcom National Training
Gareth is a qualified Transport Manager and qualified adult tutor who delivers Transcom's transport manager CPC, refresher and OLAT training to operators and transport managers across the UK. Before training others, he held real, hands-on responsibility as a practising Transport Manager himself — so he knows firsthand how daunting it can feel when you've just passed the exam and someone tells you that you're now personally responsible for the complete transport operation. His sessions are grounded in that operational reality, not textbook theory. You'll spend two days working through real scenarios with someone who has lived through exactly what you're about to take on.
"The interactive nature of Gareth's presentation style is undoubtedly the reason I would recommend this course. A good value course delivered with accuracy and confidence."

New Transport Manager Course — FAQs
I've just passed my Transport Manager CPC. Why would I need more training?
Because qualification is not the same as readiness. The CPC proves you understand legislation; it doesn't prepare you for real situations where commercial pressure, defects, drivers and enforcement risk collide. This course bridges the gap between passing the exam and running a compliant operation — with the documentation to match.
How is this different from the refresher course or OLAT?
The 2-Day Refresher is for TMs who've already been doing the job and need to keep their knowledge current — it assumes practical experience this course doesn't. OLAT covers operator and director-level licence awareness rather than the TM role itself. This course is specifically for people in their first months of Transport Manager or restricted-licence compliance responsibility — no prior practical experience assumed.
Is it normal to still feel unprepared after passing the CPC?
Yes. The CPC tests your knowledge of the legislation; it was never designed to teach you how to run the day-to-day systems, handle a driver who pushes back, or know what "good" looks like to a DVSA examiner. Most transport managers pick this up through a difficult first year, or not at all until something goes wrong. This course exists to shortcut that.
Is the course really delivered on Zoom?
Yes — two full days (09:00–16:30), live and tutor-led, from anywhere in the UK. It's interactive training with discussion and scenario work, not pre-recorded e-learning. You just need a laptop or PC with a webcam and microphone.
What exactly is in the policy and procedure template pack?
Editable templates for the core documentation a compliant operation needs: drivers' hours and working time policy, tachograph and infringement procedures, defect reporting, maintenance planning, licence checking, driver handbook, escalation procedures and a TM oversight evidence structure. You work through them on the course and adapt them to your own fleet.
Do I need to have my CPC to attend?
No. The course is built for newly qualified transport managers, but restricted operator licence holders without a formal qualification get the same value — you carry the same compliance obligations and need the same systems.
When is the best time to attend?
Ideally before your first day as a named transport manager, or within your first few months. The highest-risk period is the start — when you're legally accountable but still building practical confidence.
Does this count towards CPD?
Yes. You receive a certificate of completion, and the two days provide demonstrable evidence of CPD aligned to transport manager responsibilities — oversight, risk management and accountability.
Is there an exam at the end?
No. This is practical, scenario-based development focused on professional judgement and defensible decision-making — not memorising textbook answers.
Should employers put newly appointed transport managers through this?
In most cases, yes. If you're naming a newly qualified TM on your licence, the business is relying on someone with no practical track record to protect its compliance systems and regulatory standing from day one. Group rates are available for multiple delegates.
