How to Check Your Driver CPC Training Hours: Official GOV.UK Record Guide

Written by: Gareth Wildman — Director, Transport Compliance Specialist & Lead Trainer at Transcom National Training

Understanding your Driver CPC record is the first step in maintaining professional compliance. This guide explains how to access the official GOV.UK service, what your training record actually shows, and how to resolve common discrepancies.

Pro Tip: For most drivers, checking your record isn't about looking for a new course—it's about ensuring your 35-hour periodic training cycle is on track. All official records are held securely on the GOV.UK portal.
Compliance Alert: If you are nearing your 5-year deadline and your record shows fewer than 35 hours, you are at risk. Driving professionally without a valid DQC can result in significant fines and an immediate prohibition from working.
The 5-Year Compliance Window: Your Driver CPC is valid for 5 years from the date of issue. To renew, you must complete 35 hours of JAUPT-approved training before the expiry date shown on your Driver Qualification Card (DQC).

What Your DVSA Driver CPC Record Shows

The official government service is the "single source of truth" for your professional driving status. By logging in, you can:

  • Verify the total number of training hours credited to your current cycle.
  • Review a detailed log of completed course dates and specific module titles.
  • Monitor your progress toward the 35-hour renewal requirement.
  • Identify exactly when your next Driver Qualification Card (DQC) will be triggered and posted.
  • Generate a secure temporary password to prove your hours to a current or prospective employer.
New Driver Notice: The system only creates your digital record after your first training session has been uploaded by an approved centre. If you have never attended a CPC course, you will not be able to register yet.
Status Check: If you have checked your record and found you are short of the 35 hours, you need to book additional training. Browse our DVSA-approved online course calendar.

What You'll Need to Log In

Ensure you have these three details ready to avoid registration delays:

1
Driving Licence Number

The 16-character alphanumeric code found on your photocard.

2
Registered Postcode

The postcode currently registered with the DVLA on your licence.

3
Physical Password Letter

For security, your initial password is sent by physical post to your home address (usually within 3–5 working days).

Note: Training centres have up to 5 working days to upload hours, though at Transcom we prioritise same-day processing.

Troubleshooting Your Training Record

If your record doesn't look as expected, it is usually due to one of these common administrative factors.

I completed a course but the hours aren't showing

Training centres are legally allowed 5 working days to upload data. If it has been over a week, contact the training provider to verify they have your correct licence details and have processed the upload.

My registration attempt failed

Double-check that the postcode you are using matches your photocard exactly. If you have recently moved and haven't updated your licence, the system will still be looking for your previous address.

My training is under the 'National' instead of 'International' route

Following the 2024/2025 reforms, the record may distinguish between routes. Ensure you choose courses that align with your specific work requirements (UK-only or UK & EU).

I have a dual licence (HGV/PCV) but only one set of hours

This is correct. You only need to complete 35 hours total to cover both entitlements. The record should reflect this, but ensure you meet the deadline for whichever category expires first.

Contacting the Authorities (DVSA & DVA)

If you have lost your login details or your password letter hasn't arrived, you must contact the relevant body directly.
